I noticed after I posted my last entry that I have strayed away from my original intent into somewhat random thoughts. I had lost my direction. This is not the only area in which I lose direction by times and that was the focus in my prayers last night. I seem unable to perceive the correct direction for myself at the moment and no amount of my own reasoning things out will solve the issue entirely. I need to be listening for, or waiting to feel, the direction I am meant to go.
When Moses and the Israelites were wandering in the desert God went before them visibly as a pillar of fire at night and of cloud in the day time. Where are our pillars of fire? We are in a more modern age, a blinking arrow would be good.
Maybe the modern age is our problem. With all the flash and glam, all the computer screens, TV screens, BlackBerries, iPods, iPads, Androids and whatever comes next how likely are we to notice a little flurry of dust or smoke? I think there is a real need for us to turn all the lights off, at least figuratively if not literally, and wait for our eyes to adjust so that we can see God’s directional arrows.
We don’t have to find or wait for our direction alone. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” John 14:6 When he returned to the Father he sent the Spirit to be with us. The path is there in Jesus, we have a guidebook in the Bible, and we have company and support in the Spirit, through God the Father.
